🍂 Autumn’s Bounty: New Season Fruit + A Cosy Pear Recipe

As the heat of summer fades and the air turns crisp, autumn in Queensland brings with it a stunning array of fresh, flavourful produce. From orchard to market, this is the perfect time of year to celebrate the new season fruits that thrive in our cooler months — full of colour, nutrients, and natural sweetness.

Whether you’re filling a fruit bowl, packing school lunches, or planning something warm and comforting for dessert, here’s what’s in season — and a delicious way to enjoy it.

🍎 What’s in Season This Autumn?

Queensland’s diverse climate allows for a variety of fruits to shine in autumn. Some of our local highlights include:

  • Pears – sweet, soft and perfect for baking. We’ve got gorgeous new season pears in store right now

  • Apples – crunchy and crisp, straight from the orchards

  • Pomegranates – packed with antioxidants and vibrant juice

  • Figs – lusciously sweet and perfect in both savoury and sweet dishes

  • Citrus (early varieties) – mandarins and oranges begin to make an appearance

These fruits are not only bursting with flavour but also with vitamins, fibre, and antioxidants, making them a great addition to your autumn wellness routine.

🍐 Autumn Recipe: Spiced Poached Pears

This recipe is one of our autumn favourites — simple, nourishing, and beautifully fragrant. It’s perfect served warm for dessert, with yoghurt for breakfast, or even chilled as part of a cheese board.

Ingredients:

  • 4 ripe but firm pears, peeled and halved

  • 3 cups water

  • 1/3 cup organic maple syrup or honey

  • Juice of 1 lemon

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 star anise

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • Optional: a few slices of fresh ginger or a pinch of ground cloves

Method:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water, maple syrup, lemon juice, spices, and vanilla. Bring to a gentle simmer.

  2. Add the pears and simmer for 20–25 minutes, turning occasionally, until tender but not mushy.

  3. Remove pears and let the syrup reduce slightly if you prefer a thicker sauce.

  4. Serve warm or chilled with yoghurt, muesli, or a scoop of vanilla coconut ice cream.

📝 Tip: Use the leftover syrup over porridge or pancakes — zero waste and all flavour!
